The Elvis song chosen represents the Three of Pentacles Reversed.
3rd January
The following morning I was out of the door before Timothy arrived. I was looking forward to spending another day with him and was ready bright and early. I stood beside the gate of number two and watched as he walked towards me. He didn't stride along as if he were in a hurry but he didn't take his time either. He walked with a swagger that I found distinctly appealing. I liked the way this man moved.
He greeted me with a cheery good morning and tucked my hand into his elbow again as we started to walk. I realised that he had a way of making everyone around him feel wanted and comfortable in his company. We walked up to the castle and into his workshop where the apprentices were waiting for us. Two other men were waiting outside the workshop. They wanted to commission him for some work on their homes and he told them that he would be happy to discuss their requirements this afternoon after they had installed the gate for the king.
Two of the apprentices lifted the gate while another picked up some tools and we all walked around the base of the castle to a little garden that was outside the castle kitchens. The apprentices set to work digging out some soil and installing the braces for the gate. Timothy stood watching over them whilst they worked making suggestions here and there but on the whole leaving them to get on with the work.
I must admit I was bemused. I couldn't understand why such an amount of work had gone into making a gate to protect a few vegetables. I thought a plainer gate would have done the job just as well. Timothy told me that it didn't matter that the gate would only be seen by the kitchen workers. What mattered was that he and his team had produced the best possible gate with the materials they had and the time they had. Yes, a plain gate would have done the job but when they could make something more beautiful with the same material, why not do it. It wasn't a matter of just doing a job but doing it to the best specifications you could manage.
When the gate was in place the kitchen workers all admired it and said what a good job everyone had done. They were smiling and heaping praise on the apprentices while Timothy stood there looking proud of the team.
The King of Pentacles came along to inspect the work and spent a few minutes chatting with Timothy about further work he wanted done around the castle. As the King walked off Timothy once again took my hand and placed it in the crook of his arm. We walked back to the workshop where he called all the apprentices together and congratulated them on another job well done. He told them how proud he was of their work and the way they had all pulled together as a team and that there would be a bonus in their pay packets at the end of the week.
The Page of Pentacles arrived with a payment from the King and a wad of papers detailing the other projects the King wanted to get started on. The Page said he was on his way to Pentacle Street to deliver the post and would be happy to have some company on the way if I cared to join him.
Timothy took my hand and kissed it - as he did so I was looking into his eyes – such an unusual mixture of colours – blue with tiny specks of green and a little brown streak in one area. He told me what a pure pleasure it had been to have my company over the past couple of days but that he supposed he should let someone else enjoy my company for a while. As he let go of my hand and winked at me I thought how easy it would be to fall for this man.
I sighed and turned to walk back towards Pentacle Street with the Page.
